Myeloid cell replacement induces intercellular mitochondrial transfer and restores metabolism in a mouse model of mitochondrial disease
Verdict
UNSCIENTIFIC
The study only partly follows the scientific method inside its paradigm, and the paradigm itself does not pass. The worse layer decides. The verdict is unscientific.
1·Study methodology · inside the paradigm
MIXED
Partly follows the scientific method within Genomics / DNA Model / Allopathic Medicine.

How the verdict is decided
The verdict grades both layers: the paradigm this study assumes, and how the study was carried out inside it. Both must be scientific for the whole thing to be scientific. A clean method inside an unscientific paradigm is unscientific. An unscientific method inside a better paradigm is unscientific. A split on either layer is mixed. The worse layer decides.
1·Study methodology
Did this study test its claim with methods that are independent, falsifiable, and non-circular?
MIXED
This study claims that myeloid cell replacement induces intercellular mitochondrial transfer and restores metabolism in a mouse model of Friedreich's ataxia. The tests split.
Independently Verifiable
Fail
The mitochondrial transfer claim exists only as a fluorescent signal that the genetic model interprets as mitochondria moving between cells.
Falsifiable
Pass
If treated mice had died at the same rate as untreated mice, the claim would have been dead.
Non-Circular
Fail
The fluorescent reporters, PCR probes, and sequencing references were all built from the genetic model the study uses to confirm mitochondrial transfer.
Why
They engineered mice to produce a green fluorescent protein in cell cytoplasm and a red fluorescent protein targeted to the mitochondria. They transplanted bone marrow from these mice into mice with a genetic defect. They detected red fluorescence in cells without green fluorescence and called this mitochondrial transfer. The red signal is real. The interpretation is the model. They used PCR probes designed from known sequences, RNA sequencing aligned to a reference genome, and antibodies against model-defined proteins to confirm metabolic changes. The survival data, weight measurements, and behavioral tests are visible to anyone. But those outcomes show the treatment works, not that it works through mitochondrial transfer. The mechanism claim requires the model at every step.
2·Paradigm · Genomics / DNA Model / Allopathic Medicine
Does the framework this study assumes pass the three tests?
UNSCIENTIFIC
Independently Verifiable
Fail
Nobody has seen a gene or watched DNA code for a protein; sequencing machines produce flashes of light and the model supplies the meaning.
Falsifiable
Fail
When a gene is not expressed or a phenotype does not match, the field calls it a technical limitation or a complex trait rather than evidence the model is wrong.
Non-Circular
Fail
PCR primers, sequencing references, and gene annotations were built from the same model they claim to confirm.
Why
The genetic model claims that DNA sequences encode proteins and that defects in these sequences cause disease. Sequencing machines produce flashes of light. PCR machines produce fluorescence curves. The model converts those signals into genes, transcripts, and mutations. Nobody has independently observed a gene or watched DNA instruct a cell. The tools were built from the model and confirm the model. The allopathic component treats the frataxin deficiency signal as the disease rather than asking what damaged the patient. Replacing cells to compensate for a deficiency suppresses the measurement without addressing what caused it. Mice living longer proves the intervention helped. It does not prove the framework understands why the mice were sick.
From the study
Putative mitochondrial acceptor cells were identified for the absence of GFP and the presence of the mKate2 (GFP-/mKate2+)
A FAM-labeled probe specific to the region flanking exon 5 of the integrated human FXN YAC transgene was used to detect human FXN (hFXN) sequences, while a HEX-labeled probe targeting the murine Rosa26 locus in chromosome 9 served as an internal reference.
Paired-end reads were aligned to the Ensembl Mus musculus genome (GRCm39) via STAR (2.7.11b).
